Preserving American Manufacturing: Martin Greenfield Clothiers Advocates for Renewal of Wool Apparel Manufacturers Trust Fund

Brooklyn-Based Suit Maker, Renowned for Dressing U.S. Presidents, Seeks Support Amid Legislative Changes

NEW YORK, NY  — Martin Greenfield Clothiers, one of  the last-standing hand-tailored suit manufacturers in America, is calling for the renewal of the Wool Apparel Manufacturers Trust Fund—a pivotal program that has historically helped domestic suit makers in maintaining competitiveness in the global market.

For 77 years, Martin Greenfield Clothiers has epitomized American craftsmanship, tailoring suits for U.S. presidents, A-list celebrities and business icons—from Eisenhower to Obama. Founded by Holocaust survivor Martin Greenfield, this Brooklyn-based, family-run, union-affiliated business remains dedicated to preserving the art of fine tailoring in the United States.

The Wool Apparel Manufacturers Trust Fund, established under the Agricultural Act of 2014 and reauthorized in the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018, was designed to partially mitigate the higher tariffs on imported wool fabrics compared to imported tailored clothing.

This fund has been instrumental in helping to level the playing field for American manufacturers by refunding the 25% duty paid on imported fine wool fabrics required to manufacture clothing here in America. However, the program expired in 2024, domestic manufacturers now face increased costs, making it more challenging to compete with foreign producers who do not incur similar tariffs.

How to Support American Tailoring

Martin Greenfield Clothiers invites policymakers, industry leaders, and supporters of American manufacturing to join the effort by:

Engaging with Congress  – Urging federal lawmakers  to reinstate this essential program.
Building Connections  – Introducing key decision-makers to the importance of domestic tailoring.
✅ Spreading Awareness  – Sharing this story to ensure  American-made craftsmanship thrives.

Additionally, Martin Greenfield Clothiers is bringing Made in America tailoring to Washington, D.C., offering government leaders and professionals the opportunity to invest in premium, union-made suits that reflect American heritage and quality.
